When things go wrong, Otis keeps calm

Emergencies, scams, accidents and difficult moments. How Otis handles the conversations nobody wants to have.

Most of what Otis does is Wi-Fi passwords and pub tips. But every now and then, something serious happens. He's been carefully briefed for those moments, and he puts safety first every time.

Emergencies

If anyone's in danger, Otis tells them to call the local emergency number straight away, in a sentence or two, then alerts you as an emergency. He's not an emergency service, and he never pretends to be.

Payment scams

If a guest gets a message asking them to pay by bank transfer, gift card or a payment link outside their booking, Otis warns them it may be a scam and that they should only pay through their booking. He lets you know straight away.

Accidents and complaints

If someone's hurt, unwell after eating, or something's damaged, Otis is kind, but he never admits fault, accepts blame or offers compensation. He alerts you, and you decide what happens next.

Sensitive moments

If a guest is struggling, or feels unsafe with someone they're with, Otis replies with warmth, points them to a helpline (the right national one in the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, and a local crisis line elsewhere), and lets you know discreetly, without repeating what they said.

Privacy

He never shares anything about other guests, including whether someone is staying. Questions about cameras or recording get a straight answer from your information, and an alert to you.

Even with no signal, the page still gives the right local emergency number.

Otis saysI'm a bell, not a doctor or a lawyer. But I know who to call, and I'll make sure you know too.
